FAQ

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

You do not need a referral to see me.

Simply book in a free enquiry call or contact me through the 'Get in Touch' button.

CAN I USE A MENTAL HEALTH PLAN FROM MY DOCTOR?

Counselling and psychotherapy services are not covered under Medicare. Medicare rebates are offered only for those diagnosed with mental health disorders under a mental health plan prepared by a GP. Counselling works from a less diagnostic model.

Not being covered by Medicare has many advantages. Because I don’t fall under this Government subsidised system, I do not need to report back to authorities. There is a shorter waiting period and the opportunity to be seen as much as you wish. You have the option to choose the counsellor you really ‘click’ with instead of going with the person your GP refers you to.

DO YOU ACCEPT PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE?

WHAT IS YOUR PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY?

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE 1ST SESSION?

In the first session together, I will talk you through some important information (such as your right to confidentiality, the counselling agreement, etc.). I will explain how I work and what I can offer.

This initial session is about getting to know each other. There is room to discuss expectations, previous experiences and any concerns. We will also start to explore your story and what brings you to counselling.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

The amount of sessions you need will depend entirely on your individual circumstances. Counselling is most effective when it is regular and consistent, particularly when you first begin the process.

Typically, sessions can occur weekly or fortnightly to start with, and then decrease in frequency as you work through your concerns; however, this is flexible. We will assess your needs and situation, and decide together on what will work best for you.

Many people are often able to resolve their concerns, or make significant progress, in six sessions or less.  More complex issues may require a longer time frame.

DO I REALLY NEED COUNSELLING?

I would like to invite you to read the following article. Feel free to reach out with any questions you have.

HOW DOES ONLINE COUNSELLING WORK?

You will receive a secure link in your mailbox once you booked in an appointment and made payment. I use Zoom which does not need you to sign up. You just have to click on the link and our session can start.

There are no limits on where to have an online session (in the car, outside, etc.) as long as maximum privacy is guaranteed by making sure nobody can walk in on you or overhear you.

IS ONLINE COUNSELLING SAFE AND CONFIDENTIAL?

The information discussed in your counselling session is entirely confidential and will not be released to anyone except with your explicit permission.

The only time I - as a counsellor - may release information to authorities is if I feel your life or someone else’s life is in immediate danger, or the records fall under legal subpoena from a court of law.

Our sessions will be held through Zoom. This platform encrypts communication between users. This ensures that no third party – including Zoom – has access to our communication which makes a session confidential, safe and secure.

HOW LONG IS A COUNSELLING SESSION?

A session will go for 50 minutes.

I HAVE A QUESTION THAT ISN'T MENTIONED HERE
